NHAI Adds Local Pass and Help Desk to RajmargYatra App

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has updated its RajmargYatra app with digital local toll passes and a multilingual help center. These features aim to reduce manual paperwork at toll plazas and simplify commuter support for FASTag and road safety queries.

Detailed Coverage

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) continues to push for digital efficiency in highway management with its latest updates to the RajmargYatra mobile application. The introduction of digital Local Passes is a significant move for residents living within a 20-kilometer radius of toll plazas. By integrating the service with government digital databases like DigiLocker and VAHAN, the NHAI aims to automate eligibility verification, which should reduce the need for commuters to visit toll booths in person for monthly pass renewals.

Digital Tools to Improve Toll Plaza Efficiency

The Local Pass feature is currently undergoing a pilot rollout at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza. For investors and market observers, this transition from manual processing to digital verification is part of a broader push to reduce bottlenecks at toll collection points. By minimizing physical paperwork and desk interactions at toll plazas, the agency aims to improve vehicle throughput and data accuracy in toll collection.

Multilingual Support and Complaint Tracking

Alongside the toll pass integration, the app has introduced the MargMitra Help Centre. This digital assistant supports 22 Indian languages, allowing a wider range of commuters to access support for FASTag-related services. Key features include the ability to check FASTag blacklist status, update KYC details, and track the status of registered complaints in real-time. The addition of a digital appeal process for grievances is designed to increase accountability in highway operations.

While these technological upgrades primarily focus on user experience and administrative efficiency, they also reflect the NHAI's ongoing strategy to modernize highway infrastructure and reduce the operational costs associated with manual toll administration. Investors monitoring the infrastructure sector should track the speed at which these digital services are scaled to other toll plazas across the national highway network. The success of this rollout will depend on the system's ability to handle high volumes of real-time transactions and its seamless integration with the existing FASTag ecosystem.
