Martha Stewart Co-founds AI Startup Hint to Manage Homes

Martha Stewart has launched Hint, an AI-powered app that helps homeowners track maintenance, energy use, and property documents. The startup recently secured $10 million in funding to expand its platform. The app uses public data and user inputs to provide personalized home health insights, aiming to simplify property management through automated schedules and an integrated AI chatbot.

Martha Stewart has officially stepped into the technology sector as a co-founder of Hint, an AI-driven platform designed to streamline home management for property owners. The application, which launched today, functions as a digital assistant for household maintenance, energy efficiency, and administrative tasks. Unlike typical endorsement deals, the company stated that Stewart is actively involved in the development, product branding, and refining the AI's language to ensure it meets practical homeowner requirements.

Platform Features and AI Integration

Hint allows users to build a comprehensive digital profile of their property. By entering an address, the app automatically pulls in public records, including local weather data, property history, and utility information. Users can further personalize this dashboard by uploading home-specific documents such as inspection reports, mortgage details, warranties, and service invoices. The platform uses this data to provide insights into specific home risks, such as soil conditions affecting foundations, flood risks related to climate patterns, and energy consumption analysis.

The app includes a proactive scheduling tool that sends notifications for routine maintenance tasks, such as servicing HVAC systems or cleaning refrigerator coils. Additionally, an integrated AI chatbot—built using technology from OpenAI and Gemini—allows users to ask specific questions regarding their home expenses, service histories, or insurance coverage details.

Business Model and Funding

Hint began in 2024 as a niche tool focused on helping homeowners navigate decarbonization incentives before pivoting to a broader home management model. The company recently raised $10 million in funding from investors including Slow Ventures, Tusk Venture Partners, and Brian Kelly. While the core AI features are currently free for users on iOS, the startup plans to introduce a premium subscription model in the future, which will include features like managing multiple properties. Currently, the company generates revenue through affiliate links to service providers, though leadership has stated that a firewall is in place to maintain unbiased recommendations.

Leadership and Execution

The startup is led by a team with experience in consumer technology and digital platforms. Co-founder and CEO Yih-Han Ma previously held a senior role at Red Ventures, while CTO and co-founder Kyle Rush brings technical experience from his tenure at companies like Casper and Maisonette. As the app moves into the public domain, the primary monitorables for users and potential future investors will be the accuracy of the AI’s guidance, the scalability of its user base, and how the company balances affiliate-based revenue with the quality of its service provider recommendations.
