Infosys to Hire 20,000 Freshers Amid IT Sector Hiring Trends

Infosys has announced plans to recruit 20,000 college graduates this financial year, maintaining a steady talent pipeline. This decision stands out as the broader IT industry remains cautious due to increased automation and AI integration, which have slowed down overall net hiring across the sector.

Detailed Coverage

Infosys has announced a target to recruit 20,000 college graduates during the current financial year. This hiring commitment, confirmed by CEO Salil Parekh, reflects the company's strategy to maintain a steady flow of entry-level talent even as the broader IT services industry exercises caution. The move comes as many technology firms focus on optimizing their existing workforce and increasing automation to improve efficiency rather than expanding total headcount.

The Indian IT sector, which is a major contributor to the country's export revenue, is currently undergoing a structural transition. Automation and the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence are changing the types of skills companies look for. Recent observations from rating agencies suggest that net hiring across the sector may remain muted for some time, as firms prioritize hiring specialists in AI and data science over traditional roles. This shift is clearly reflected in recent labor market data, where demand for AI-related skills has risen sharply in technology job postings compared to previous years.

Financial Performance and Growth Guidance

Following its financial results for the June quarter of 2026, Infosys adjusted its revenue growth guidance for the full fiscal year. The company narrowed its forecast to 1.5% to 3% in constant currency terms, aligning its outlook with prevailing market expectations. Operating margins, a key metric for investor focus, are projected to remain in the 20% to 22% range. In the June quarter, the company reported revenue of $5.08 billion, representing a sequential growth of 0.8%. Management attributed the modest growth rate in this quarter primarily to a one-time impact from a client decision.

Strategic Acquisitions and Leadership Succession

Beyond recruitment, Infosys continues to evaluate potential acquisitions to strengthen its service offerings and geographical presence. The company is particularly interested in expanding its footprint in the healthcare vertical and enhancing specialized service-line competencies. Alongside these strategic goals, the company has announced a leadership transition plan. Ashiss Kumar Dash has been appointed as the CEO Designate and is scheduled to take over the roles of CEO and Managing Director on April 1, 2027, following the conclusion of Salil Parekh's current term.

Investors will likely track the company's ability to integrate new talent while managing the costs associated with training them for high-demand AI roles. The actual pace of campus hiring and the company’s ability to achieve its revenue growth targets amid sector-wide automation will be key monitorables in the coming quarters.
