Infosys Q1 Net Profit Drops 8.6% to ₹7,769 Crore

Infosys reported a sequential net profit decline of 8.6% for Q1 FY27, even as large deal wins reached $3.6 billion. The company lowered its annual revenue growth guidance to 1.5-3%, citing a cautious demand environment and macroeconomic challenges. Investors are monitoring whether AI contributions and a strong order book can offset these growth pressures in the coming quarters.

Detailed Coverage

Infosys has started the 2027 fiscal year with a cautious growth outlook, revising its constant currency revenue growth forecast down to a range of 1.5% to 3%. This adjustment reflects a more conservative stance compared to earlier expectations, as the IT giant navigates a complex global demand landscape.

Financial Performance Snapshot

For the quarter ending June 2026, the company reported a total revenue of ₹48,211 crore, marking a 3.9% sequential increase. Despite this growth in top-line figures, net profit fell by 8.6% compared to the preceding quarter, standing at ₹7,769 crore. When viewed against the same period last year, however, the financial picture looks different, with revenue rising 14% and net profit increasing by 12.2% year-on-year. The operating margin saw a modest sequential improvement of 20 basis points, reaching 21.1%.

Factors Influencing Guidance

Management indicated that the moderated growth guidance is influenced by a combination of factors, including specific one-time client decisions and broader economic conditions. While the company continues to see activity in the financial services and energy and utilities sectors, other areas like retail remain under pressure, showing limited signs of immediate recovery. The focus remains on managing volume fluctuations and maintaining operational efficiency as the company balances current market volatility with long-term strategy.

Large Deals and AI Momentum

One of the key indicators of the company’s competitive positioning remains its ability to secure large-scale contracts. During this quarter, Infosys signed large deals with a total contract value of $3.6 billion, with 61% of these being net new business. This is a notable increase from the $3.2 billion reported in the previous quarter. Additionally, investments in artificial intelligence appear to be gaining traction, with AI-related services now contributing 8.2% to total revenue. The company is actively focusing on its Topaz portfolio and workforce reskilling to support enterprise-level AI transformations.

Workforce and Future Monitorables

Infosys ended the quarter with a headcount of 328,062 employees. The company has reaffirmed its intention to hire 20,000 freshers throughout fiscal year 2027, having successfully onboarded approximately 4,000 in the first quarter. As the year progresses, investors will be tracking the company's ability to convert its robust deal pipeline into actual revenue. Other critical monitorables include the stability of profit margins in a competitive pricing environment and any potential for an upward revision in growth guidance if macroeconomic conditions show sustained improvement later in the fiscal year.
