Hon Hai to Hike 2026 AI Spending by 30% Amid U.S. Push

Foxconn owner Hon Hai is raising its 2026 capital spending by over 30% to accelerate AI server production, with a strategic focus on U.S. manufacturing sites. The expansion aims to capture global AI demand as the company reports a 35% rise in second-quarter 2026 profit. Investors are weighing this growth against the company’s thin profit margins and heavy reliance on major tech clients.

Hon Hai Precision Industry, commonly known as Foxconn, is significantly stepping up its investment in artificial intelligence. The company confirmed it will increase its capital spending by more than 30% for 2026 to scale up production of AI servers and related infrastructure. This move is designed to support the rapidly growing need for high-performance computing equipment among global tech giants.

The company’s roadmap for this expansion includes bringing next-generation AI racks into mass production starting in the third quarter of 2026, with shipments expected to begin in the final three months of the year. Hon Hai is currently a major player in the AI server market, claiming over 40% of the global share, and its new target is to reach 50%.

A central part of this strategy is deepening the company's presence in the United States. Hon Hai plans to boost both research and production capabilities at its campuses in Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio, and California. By growing its U.S. operations, the manufacturer aims to be closer to its American clients and better serve their infrastructure needs.

Financially, the company reported strong momentum in the second quarter of 2026, with revenue climbing 41% to NT$2.53 trillion and net profit rising 35% to NT$59.98 billion compared to the same period last year. This performance reflects the massive demand for AI-related hardware that continues to drive the sector forward.

For investors, it is important to understand the nature of Hon Hai’s business model. As a contract manufacturer, the company operates with very thin profit margins, which stood at 6.12% in the second quarter of 2026. This means the business relies heavily on massive volume to generate profit. Any slowdown in demand from its major clients, such as large U.S. cloud providers or smartphone manufacturers, can have a direct impact on the company's earnings.

Additionally, the company faces the challenge of managing complex global supply chains. Expanding production across different countries like the U.S., Mexico, Taiwan, and Vietnam requires careful coordination to avoid cost overruns or delays. Investors should watch for the actual impact of this 30% spending increase on the company’s cash flow and whether it can maintain its profit margins while managing this rapid growth. The performance of its AI rack shipments in late 2026 will be the next major indicator of whether this strategy is delivering the expected returns.
