The company recently raised $18 million in a funding round supported by Match Group, the parent company of major dating platforms like Tinder and OkCupid. Other participants in the funding include investment firms FirstMark Capital and Pace Capital.

Overtone is being positioned as a departure from the conventional swipe-based dating apps that dominate the current market. Instead of relying on mass-market algorithms and endless profile browsing, the startup intends to use artificial intelligence to facilitate more curated, meaningful introductions. The service will primarily focus on voice and audio interactions to build deeper user profiles.
