HCL Tech Shares Fall 2% Despite Revenue Growth and Acquisition

HCL Technologies shares dropped 2% to Rs 1,349.40 on Tuesday, even after reporting a rise in June quarter profit to Rs 4,626 crore. The IT major also completed its acquisition of HPE’s Telco Solutions business. Investors are evaluating the firm's growth trajectory against broader sector trends in the competitive IT services market.

HCL Technologies saw its share price decline by 2% to close at Rs 1,349.40 on Tuesday. This dip occurred in the aftermath of its latest quarterly financial update and the completion of a significant strategic move within the telecommunications sector.

Financial Performance and Growth Trends

For the quarter ending June 2026, the company reported consolidated revenue of Rs 34,579 crore, up from Rs 33,981 crore in the previous quarter. Net profit for the same period stood at Rs 4,626 crore, compared to Rs 4,490 crore in the March quarter. While quarterly figures show growth, an annual look reveals that net profit saw a minor decline from Rs 17,399 crore in 2025 to Rs 16,652 crore in 2026, even as total revenue continued its long-term upward trend to reach Rs 130,144 crore.

Impact of Telco Acquisition

On August 1, 2026, HCL Technologies finalized the purchase of the Telco Solutions business from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). This expansion is aimed at broadening the company’s reach in the telecommunications space. For investors, the success of this move will depend on how effectively the company integrates these new service offerings and whether it can capture demand in a sector where many IT firms are currently focusing on network modernization and cloud services.

Balance Sheet and Shareholder Returns

From a financial stability perspective, the company maintains a debt-free status, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.00 as of March 2026. This lack of debt pressure provides the company with significant financial flexibility for its expansion plans. Additionally, the company has been active in returning cash to shareholders, having declared an interim dividend of Rs 12.00 per share in July, following previous payouts earlier in the year. With a Return on Networth (ROE) of 22.14% and a P/E ratio of 21.83x, the company continues to display stable operating metrics compared to its historical performance.

Sector Context and Investor Focus

Investors are currently navigating an IT sector that is sensitive to global demand shifts and pressure on pricing for traditional services. While HCL Technologies’ move into specialized telecom solutions is a strategic attempt to tap into new growth areas, the market will likely track whether these investments lead to margin improvements in the coming quarters. The primary monitorables for shareholders include the integration timeline for the newly acquired HPE business, the sustainability of revenue growth in a challenging global environment, and whether the company can maintain its healthy return ratios while pursuing further expansion.
