Figma Expands AI Toolset in India, Gains Traction in Top 100 BSE Firms

Figma has introduced new AI-powered design tools in India, including a markdown-based editor and expanded code layers. With 40% of the top 100 BSE-listed companies already using the platform, these integrations aim to bridge the gap between design and development. The move highlights Figma's strategy to deepen its presence in India, its largest market outside the United States, through local partnerships and product enhancements.

Figma has launched a suite of AI-integrated tools aimed at improving efficiency for software development teams, with a strategic focus on the Indian market. The new offerings include 'Figma Specs,' a centralized markdown editor that allows teams to document design languages and link them directly to canvas elements. Additionally, the company has transitioned its 'code layers' feature to public beta, enabling developers to write and modify code within the design environment. These tools are designed to reduce the gap between initial design mockups and functional software code.

For Indian enterprises, this update is significant given Figma’s deep penetration in the local corporate ecosystem. The company currently reports that 40% of the top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange utilize its platform. This high adoption rate suggests that digital product design has become a core component of how large Indian firms manage their software workflows. By integrating its acquired Payload CMS, Figma is attempting to offer a more unified lifecycle for digital product creation, potentially increasing the efficiency of internal software teams at these major organizations.

To address the technical challenges of generative AI, such as output inconsistency, the company is implementing structural tools that force AI agents to reference established brand guidelines and code libraries. This is supported by the new Model Context Protocol, which allows for integration with over 20 third-party tools, including Grok Bot and the Indian AI startup Sarvam. These partnerships signal an effort to ensure that design outputs are not just creative, but also aligned with specific technical constraints and brand standards.

While the expansion of these AI tools aims to boost productivity, investors and technology leaders may monitor how effectively these features are adopted in complex enterprise environments. The reliance on AI for coding and design documentation introduces a dependency on the accuracy of these automated systems. Furthermore, as Figma continues to scale its operations in India, its ability to integrate with diverse tech stacks and maintain stability during high-volume usage will be critical. The company's future performance in the Indian market will likely depend on the seamless integration of these tools into existing development cycles and the long-term value they provide to large-scale software projects.
