Unlike many companies that rely heavily on analyzing massive amounts of existing web video or simulated environments, Enigma is taking a different approach by focusing on direct human-robot interaction. The company is initiating a worldwide experiment that invites the public to interact with more than 100 proprietary AI robots located in facilities in Israel and California. These robots are built for various applications, ranging from routine tasks like painting to more specialized activities like chemical mixing and simulated combat maneuvers.

Vision for Simplified Robotics

Co-founders Jonathan Jacobi, formerly of Microsoft, and Gal Niv, both alumni of Israel’s elite Unit 8200, believe current robotic control systems are too complex for everyday use. Their goal is to simplify the user experience so that controlling a robot becomes as straightforward as adjusting the volume knob in a car. The startup argues that if operating a robot requires lengthy explanations or complex programming, it fails to be a practical tool for most users.

Data Collection and Future Development

The upcoming public experiment serves a strategic purpose: gathering massive datasets on how humans attempt to communicate with and control machines. Enigma plans to test various interaction methods, including text commands, audio, video demonstrations, and direct manual control. By analyzing this data, the company intends to refine its underlying AI brains and create interfaces that allow robots to perform tasks beyond their original training. Investors and industry observers will likely monitor the company’s ability to successfully scale these robots and translate the experimental data into a commercially viable product, as the field of robotics remains competitive with high costs for hardware development and significant execution risks regarding AI reliability.
