Dixon Tech Shares Fall 3% on Margin Pressure Despite Q1 Growth

Dixon Technologies reported a 21.1% jump in Q1 revenue to ₹15,548 crore, yet shares dropped 3% as investors reacted to narrowing profit margins. While the mobile business grew, rising input costs in the home appliances segment and a decline in core operating profit weighed on the stock.

Dixon Technologies, a leading Indian electronics manufacturing services firm, saw its stock decline by approximately 3.3% on Monday following the release of its financial results for the April-June quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. While the company achieved a robust 21.1% year-on-year revenue growth to reach ₹15,548 crore, the market reaction highlighted investor caution regarding the quality of core profitability.

Impact of Margin Contraction

A critical detail in the quarterly results was the decline in operating profit, or EBITDA, which fell 4.1% year-on-year to ₹463 crore. This resulted in the EBITDA margin shrinking to 3%, down from 3.8% in the same quarter of the previous year. The company attributed this pressure primarily to the home appliances division, which struggled with higher raw material costs, specifically volatile polymer prices, and fluctuations in foreign exchange rates. Investors are watching to see if Dixon’s strategy to pass on these costs to customers and improve operational efficiency can stabilize margins in the coming quarters.

Other Income Influence on Net Profit

While the company reported a net profit of ₹663 crore compared to ₹225 crore in the year-ago period, this jump was significantly supported by a surge in 'other income' totaling ₹528 crore. Analysts often differentiate between profit generated from core business operations and gains from other income sources. The decline in core operating profit despite strong revenue growth has led some market observers to suggest that the sustainability of these margins will be a key factor for shareholders to evaluate in future reports.

Expansion and Future Outlook

Dixon Technologies remains in an expansion phase, with plans to grow its presence in IT hardware, telecom equipment, and emerging high-value categories like servers and data centers. Brokerage firms have expressed mixed views on the stock following these results. Some analysts maintain a cautious 'hold' stance, suggesting that while revenue growth is strong, the company needs to demonstrate improved core profitability by the 2028 fiscal year. Others maintain a positive outlook, focusing on volume growth and the potential of these new business segments. The primary monitorables for investors moving forward will be the company’s ability to protect its profit margins amidst fluctuating input costs and the pace at which it can scale its new technology-focused manufacturing initiatives.
