Deezer AI Music Uploads Top 50% Amid Fraud Removal Policy

Music streamer Deezer reports that AI-generated tracks now exceed 50% of daily uploads. The company is removing inactive or fraudulent AI content to protect artist royalties and platform quality. Investors should monitor how these content moderation costs and potential legal disputes with AI developers impact the company's long-term operating margins.

Detailed Coverage

Music streaming platform Deezer has reported a major shift in its content library, with AI-generated tracks now accounting for more than half of all daily uploads. This volume reached a peak of 90,000 new tracks per day in June 2026. The rapid rise of machine-generated content has prompted the company to introduce stricter policies aimed at curbing fraud and ensuring fair compensation for human artists.

Impact of AI on Platform Economics

The financial implications for streaming services are significant. When AI-generated tracks generate royalties, they can dilute the payment pool intended for professional musicians and songwriters. Deezer’s management, led by CEO Alexis Lanternier, has focused on reducing this 'payment dilution' for nearly two years. The new policy specifically targets AI tracks that have received no listener engagement in the last six months or are associated with automated or fraudulent streaming activity. By removing this content, Deezer aims to improve the quality of its recommendations and maintain the value proposition for its subscribers.

Growth Trend and Detection Technology

The growth of AI music on the platform has been exponential. Data shows that in January 2025, AI-generated content made up only 10% of daily uploads, or approximately 10,000 tracks. By November 2025, this grew to 34% (50,000 tracks). The acceleration continued into 2026, reaching 44% in April and exceeding the 50% threshold by mid-year. To manage this influx, Deezer has developed proprietary detection technology capable of identifying music created by popular AI models, including those developed by Suno and Udio.

Sector Challenges and Risks

The music streaming industry is currently navigating a difficult regulatory and legal environment regarding AI. Companies like Suno and Udio, whose technology creates much of this content, are facing ongoing copyright lawsuits. The outcome of these legal battles could significantly impact the availability and legality of AI-generated music on platforms.

Different companies are choosing varying paths to manage this pressure. While platforms like Bandcamp have banned AI music, and Tidal has stopped paying royalties for it, others like Apple Music and Spotify are utilizing different tagging and policy-based systems. For Deezer, the key challenge remains balancing the influx of new content against the rising costs of detection and the risk of copyright-related litigation. Investors should monitor whether these content moderation efforts lead to increased operating expenses or if they successfully preserve the platform's brand value among artists and listeners.
