CoreWeave Partners With AdaniConneX For 240MW India Data Center

CoreWeave is teaming up with AdaniConneX to build a 240-megawatt AI data center in Navi Mumbai, with operations planned for 2028. While the move signals a major bet on India's AI infrastructure, investors are paying close attention to CoreWeave’s significant debt burden and the long project timeline.

CoreWeave, a prominent player in AI infrastructure, is entering the Indian market through a strategic partnership with AdaniConneX. The project will be located at the Taloja campus in Navi Mumbai and involves a 240-megawatt data center deployment. This initiative is a major effort to scale AI-focused computing power within India, with plans to set up a local office and hire staff to support the expansion.

The new facilities will feature Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin chips, which are built to handle complex AI training and model reasoning tasks. The project structure consists of three 80-megawatt buildings, with the current agreement giving CoreWeave the option to double the total capacity to 480 megawatts as the project progresses. Construction is underway with the expectation that the facilities will begin operations by mid-2028.

Financial Balance and Debt Pressure

For investors, this expansion presents a complex picture. CoreWeave is aggressively building infrastructure to meet surging global demand for AI compute, but it is doing so while carrying a heavy debt load. Reports have placed the company’s total debt near $35 billion, with a high debt-to-earnings ratio. As a company that is currently not profitable, CoreWeave relies heavily on outside capital to fund its growth. This makes the business highly sensitive to interest rates, as borrowing costs directly impact its financial health.

Another layer of risk involves the company's upcoming repayment schedule. A significant portion of CoreWeave's debt is set to mature between 2026 and 2028. This creates a need for consistent access to capital markets to manage these repayments. Investors often monitor these debt-heavy models closely, as any difficulty in refinancing or sourcing new capital could impact the company’s ability to complete long-term projects like the one in Navi Mumbai.

Strategic Importance in India

The partnership leverages the local expertise of AdaniConneX, which is a 50/50 joint venture between Adani Enterprises and EdgeConneX. For the Indian data center market, this project highlights the country’s growing role as a hub for high-performance computing. However, because the facility will not be operational until 2028, the company faces a multi-year execution period. During this time, CoreWeave will need to navigate construction challenges, power sourcing requirements, and regulatory approvals. The success of this investment will depend on the company's ability to balance its need for rapid expansion against the financial constraints of its balance sheet.
