AssetMark Opens Hyderabad GCC, Moving Tech In-House

US-based wealthtech firm AssetMark has launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, with plans to hire 500 professionals. The company is shifting from a decade-long reliance on third-party outsourcing to building its own in-house engineering and AI capabilities. This move highlights a broader trend of international financial institutions establishing dedicated technology hubs in India to control core product development.

US-based wealth management platform AssetMark has officially opened its new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, signaling a major shift in how the company manages its technology operations. The new facility is designed to accommodate approximately 500 employees, who will focus on driving core engineering projects, particularly in artificial intelligence and client-facing service platforms.

This development marks the end of a decade-long strategy for AssetMark, which previously relied heavily on third-party outsourcing firms to manage its software and technical requirements. By establishing this GCC, the company is transitioning toward an in-house model, allowing it to own its technology roadmap and intellectual property directly. The firm noted that this change is intended to speed up the deployment of AI tools aimed at helping financial advisors work more efficiently while maintaining the quality of service for end clients.

For the Indian technology landscape, this expansion is part of a larger trend where global financial services companies are setting up their own operational hubs rather than outsourcing to local IT services firms. While this strategy offers companies more control over their tech stack, it also represents a potential shift in revenue for Indian IT outsourcing partners who previously provided these services. When global firms bring work in-house, they reduce their dependence on external vendors, which is an important operational change for the sector.

Hyderabad has emerged as a key destination for such centers due to its established ecosystem for financial services and technology talent. The city offers the necessary infrastructure and a deep pool of skilled professionals, which AssetMark aims to leverage to maintain its competitive position in the global wealth management market. The facility will operate under the local leadership of Joshi Alaparthi, who will oversee the integration of Indian operations with the company's US headquarters.

As AssetMark is currently a private company following its acquisition by the investment firm GTCR, there is no direct impact on public stock markets. However, for investors tracking the IT services sector, this move serves as a data point regarding the sustained demand for high-quality engineering talent in India. The next phase for the company will be its ability to scale its hiring and successfully integrate these new teams into its global workflows, which will determine the overall effectiveness of this shift from an outsourced to an in-house model.
