The Assam government has inked MoUs with six organizations, including Google and IIT Madras, to modernize the state's K-12 education system. The Assam government has officially launched an initiative to integrate Artificial Intelligence across its K-12 school education system. This project is part of a broader push to reduce learning gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy, moving beyond traditional teaching methods to incorporate modern digital tools.

The core of this initiative focuses on human capital development, with a specific target to train 100,000 teachers for Grades 6 through 12 by May 2027. This training program is being led by a collaboration between IIT Madras—specifically through its Bodhan AI initiative—and Google AI. Teachers will receive access to advanced digital platforms, including Google’s Notebook and Gemini, to assist with lesson planning, curriculum adjustments, and administrative tasks. The program is designed to be accessible, offering materials in multiple languages including Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Hindi, and English.

Beyond basic teacher training, the state has brought in specialized partners to address specific educational needs. LEHS – Wadhwani AI will provide assessment tools to track reading fluency, while EkStep – AXL will introduce personalized learning models for mathematics. Additionally, the partnership with Educate Girls aims to improve the retention of adolescent girls in schools, while Canva Education will help integrate design thinking and creative digital literacy tools into the curriculum. This multi-faceted approach suggests a move toward a more comprehensive, technology-led educational framework.
