The Unit Approval Committee of the Falta Special Economic Zone has officially approved a proposal by SiCSem Private Limited to set up a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Odisha. SiCSem, a subsidiary of the NSE and BSE-listed company Archean Chemical Industries Limited, plans to invest ₹3,406.25 crore in this project.
The manufacturing plant will be located at the IDCO Infovalley-II in the Khordha district of Odisha. It is designed to manufacture silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor devices, which are essential components in high-efficiency power applications, including electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and industrial equipment.
Project Funding and Capacity
The total cost for this semiconductor unit is set at ₹3,406.25 crore. The financing for the project involves a combination of government support and internal promoter funds. According to the approved plan, the central government will provide a capital subsidy of ₹700 crore, while the state government of Odisha is set to contribute ₹350 crore. The remaining ₹1,956.25 crore will be provided by the promoter as capital contribution.
Upon becoming operational, the facility aims to produce 4.8 million silicon carbide diodes and 91.2 million silicon carbide MOSFETs each year. The project also targets an export turnover of ₹7,043 crore over the first five years, with estimated net foreign exchange earnings of ₹4,523 crore during that same period.
