Apple India Sales Cross $10 Billion; Local Flagship Output Grows

Apple's annual sales in India have surpassed $10 billion, driven by strong demand for premium iPhones. The company is now manufacturing its flagship Pro models in India for global export, signaling deeper integration into the global supply chain. This growth highlights both a shift in Indian consumer spending and the country's expanded role in Apple's global manufacturing footprint.

Apple has hit a major financial milestone in India, with annual sales crossing $10 billion. This performance is primarily driven by strong demand for the company’s premium iPhones, iPads, and Mac devices. Recent sales of the new iPhone 18 Pro series confirm that a growing number of Indian consumers are choosing to spend more on high-end technology.

The broader Indian smartphone market is seeing a clear shift. While the total number of smartphones shipped in the country fell by 4.1% to 31 million units in the first quarter of 2026, the total market value grew by 5.8%. This increase in value, even as unit sales slowed, points to a trend where consumers are moving toward higher-value products. Apple currently holds roughly 9% of total smartphone shipments but captures about 28% of the total market value, showcasing its strong advantage in the premium segment.

Beyond domestic sales, India is now a central piece of Apple’s global strategy. The company is producing its flagship iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models locally through partners like Foxconn and Tata Electronics. These locally made devices are being exported for global launch-day shipments, showing that India is no longer just a sales market but a manufacturing hub for top-tier technology.

This manufacturing shift is part of a larger trend in the electronics sector. Official data highlights this growth, with mobile phone exports from India rising significantly to ₹2.60 lakh crore in the 2026 financial year, compared to just ₹1,566 crore in 2015. Similarly, total mobile phone production in the country has increased to ₹6.27 lakh crore over the same period.

For investors, this dual growth—rising premium demand within India and the expansion of high-end manufacturing for export—is a key trend. The sustainability of this success will depend on whether premium demand continues amid broader market shifts and how effectively manufacturing partners can maintain production standards and scale operations. Investors may track government policy changes and global demand trends, as these factors significantly influence the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
