Adobe Acquires Indian Startup Rilo to Bolster AI Marketing

Adobe has acquired the Indian marketing intelligence startup Rilo for an undisclosed amount to strengthen its generative AI and workflow automation capabilities. The move integrates Rilo’s technology and team into Adobe’s customer experience suites. This acquisition is part of Adobe’s broader strategy to compete against rivals like Canva and major tech platforms in the AI-powered marketing software sector.

Adobe has acquired the Indian marketing intelligence startup Rilo, a move designed to enhance its AI-driven marketing and workflow automation features. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Rilo’s team of six and its proprietary technology will be fully integrated into Adobe’s existing Customer Experience and marketing software suites. Rilo will cease offering its tools to external customers as its technology is absorbed into the larger Adobe ecosystem.

Founded in 2025, Rilo built its reputation by helping businesses streamline complex workflows, such as managing competitor intelligence and repurposing content across multiple channels. The startup had previously secured $1 million in funding from investors including PeakXV, DeVC, and Day Zero Ventures at a valuation of $10 million. This acquisition is Adobe’s second in India, following the 2023 purchase of the video platform Rephrase.ai, reflecting an ongoing effort to tap into the Indian startup ecosystem for product innovation.

This move comes as Adobe faces increasing pressure in the generative AI space. Rivals such as Canva are aggressively expanding their design and marketing portfolios through similar acquisitions, while tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Meta are also deploying their own AI-powered marketing tools. For Adobe, integrating Rilo’s workflow builder is a tactical step to help enterprise clients better manage brand visibility and productivity across major AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

Adobe recently reported strong financial performance, with revenue reaching $6.62 billion in the second quarter of 2026. Following the announcement, market sentiment remained positive, with RBC Capital analysts maintaining an "Outperform" rating on Adobe stock on September 2, 2026, and raising their price target from $285 to $315.

Investors should monitor the challenges inherent in absorbing smaller startups into a large enterprise infrastructure. Integration risks, such as potential delays in feature deployment or operational realignment, are standard hurdles for such acquisitions. Furthermore, the highly competitive nature of the generative AI market means Adobe must continue to demonstrate how these acquisitions translate into tangible benefits for its high-value customers. The next key monitorable will be the speed at which Rilo’s automation capabilities are rolled out within Adobe's products and whether these additions help the company protect its market share against increasing competition.
