Sukamal Banerjee, who took charge as CEO of Cyient's Digital, Engineering & Technology (DET) segment in February, has identified a strong employee desire for growth. Despite Cyient's legacy in engineering, Banerjee notes a need to upgrade the performance culture and regain market relevance, stating the company had "lost touch with the market." The DET business saw a 3% revenue drop in FY25 and a 261 basis points decrease in EBIT margin year-on-year, attributed to revenue shifts and investments.
For FY27, Banerjee aims to achieve high single to low double-digit YoY growth and restore profitability margins to 15%. Cost restructuring measures are expected to yield results this fiscal, and the company is actively considering acquisitions, particularly in data engineering and platform engineering companies. These acquisitions are envisioned to be around $100 million in revenue to add competency and diversify the portfolio.
Key growth areas include leveraging data engineering for AI applications and expanding into the defense sector by obtaining ITAR clearances in the US. The Middle East is also seen as a high-growth opportunity due to increased spending in core sectors for Cyient. Brokerage reports indicate early signs of stabilization and recovery in the DET business, though margin expansion remains a focus.
