Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest software exporter, has partnered with private equity giant TPG Terabyte Bidco Pte. Ltd. to form a joint venture focused on building AI and Sovereign Data Centers across India. This strategic move is designed to propel TCS towards its goal of becoming the world's largest AI-led technology services firm.
The joint venture, named HyperVault AI Data Centre Ltd, will be established with a substantial equity investment of around Rs 18,000 crores from alliance partners. TCS will hold a majority stake of 51%, while TPG will invest up to Rs 8,820 crore, aiming for a final shareholding between 27.5% and 49%. HyperVault will be responsible for the development, ownership, operation, and management of data centers and associated infrastructure in India, catering to both AI and non-AI workloads.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of TCS, expressed his delight in partnering with TPG to build GW-scale AI data centers, capitalizing on the booming AI demand and strengthening relationships with hyperscalers and AI companies. This initiative aligns with TCS's plan to develop AI-ready data centers with a capacity exceeding one gigawatt over the next few years, positioning the company to offer comprehensive AI solutions.
This development is set against the backdrop of India's rapidly growing data center market, which is projected to see its capacity more than double by 2027 and potentially increase fivefold by 2030. The market has already attracted significant investment, underscoring the strategic importance of this JV.
Impact
This joint venture will significantly bolster TCS's infrastructure capabilities, enabling it to provide cutting-edge AI solutions and data center services. It is expected to enhance its competitive position in the global AI and cloud services market. The investment also signals confidence in India's digital infrastructure growth.
