Meesho AI Voice Assistant 'Vaani' Targets 500 Million Untapped Shoppers
Overview

E-commerce firm Meesho has launched 'Vaani', a generative AI-powered voice shopping assistant. This move targets an estimated 500 million potential users who struggle with traditional online interfaces, aiming to boost conversion rates and reduce returns by enabling natural language product discovery and purchases. The assistant currently supports English and Hindi, with plans for wider language rollout.

Making Shopping Accessible Via Voice

The assistant, dubbed 'Vaani - Your Meesho Dost,' is designed to help users who find typing, filters, and keyword searches difficult. It uses natural language, allowing shoppers to discover products, ask questions, and complete purchases smoothly, much like shopping in a physical store.

Early Results Show 22% Conversion Boost

In early tests starting February 2026, 'Vaani' engaged over 1.5 million users. Meesho reported this led to a 22% increase in conversion rates. The platform also saw fewer product returns and cancellations, suggesting customers were more satisfied and made more accurate purchases.

Meesho Addresses AI Accuracy With Guardrails

Meesho Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Sanjeev Kumar addressed potential concerns about AI accuracy. He stated the company uses strong 'guardrails and evaluation metrics.' Kumar highlighted Meesho's existing AI voicebot for customer support, which handles tens of thousands of calls daily and already scores better on customer experience than human agents in large-scale use.

AI Powers Meesho's Growth and Expansion

"At Meesho, AI has always been at the core of how we build for scale," Kumar noted. With more than 251 million users transacting annually, the company deeply understands Indian shopping behaviors. This knowledge helps Meesho innovate and meet consumer needs, using AI to effectively serve a large and varied market. Expanding into other regional languages is considered the next important step.
