Summit Signals Shift to Human-Centric AI
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, held at Bharat Mandapam, marks a significant turning point, positioning the Global South at the forefront of the artificial intelligence discourse. This summit moves beyond mere computational advancements to emphasize meaningful human impact, aligning with India's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The event signals a strategic focus on leveraging AI to enhance governance and public service delivery on an unprecedented scale.
Mindful AI and Inclusive Growth
Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya (IIM Bodh Gaya) is at the vanguard of this shift, integrating 'mindful AI' principles into its core mission. This philosophy stresses awareness of AI's impact on vulnerable populations, aligning with the summit's "Sutras" of People, Planet, and Progress. The institute has made AI and Sustainability mandatory across all subjects, ensuring future leaders understand the social, economic, and ecological footprints of data-driven decisions. Their conference on Data Analytics and Cyber Security (DACS 2024) reinforced the link between AI security and public trust.
Bridging the Digital Divide
A key challenge identified is the digital literacy gap. IIM Bodh Gaya's work with Panchayati Raj leaders in rural Bihar revealed that traditional keyboard-centric interfaces are a barrier for many. To overcome this, the institute is prioritizing multi-modal and multilingual AI systems. Voice recognition and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technologies are enabling rural leaders to interact with data using their natural voice and regional languages. This "applied AI" approach empowers human capital by making technology accessible.
Center of Excellence and Governance Innovation
IIM Bodh Gaya plans to establish a Center of Excellence in AI focused on the Intersection of AI and Society. This hub will foster collaboration between data analytics experts and policymakers to tackle real-world issues. Prototyping is underway through the Chief Minister’s Fellowship Scheme (CMFS) with the Government of Bihar, and an executive program to train public servants in AI tools is proposed. This initiative aims to create a direct pipeline for innovation in governance, exemplified by projects like Kisan E-Mitra for agricultural advisories.
National Capacity Building and Future Wellbeing
The institute is also hosting the AICTE–QIP PG Certificate Programme (2026–27) and other executive programs in AI and Machine Learning. These initiatives aim to train leaders across all levels, from students to senior government officials. The "Progress" Sutra of the summit underscores AI's role in long-term wellbeing, including mental health. IIM Bodh Gaya is exploring AI's potential in supporting mindfulness and mental health through personalized monitoring, ensuring future leaders are resilient and compassionate. The ultimate success of India's AI mission, the institute suggests, will be measured by its impact in villages, not just global tech hubs.
