Funding Resilience Amidst Moderation
India's fintech ecosystem demonstrated significant resilience in 2025, attracting $2.4 billion in funding and claiming the third spot globally, trailing only the United States and the United Kingdom. This figure represents a modest 2% rise from the previous year's $2.3 billion. The sector successfully navigated a period of broader funding slowdown, with four funding rounds exceeding $100 million.
Early-stage investment emerged as a particular bright spot, experiencing a substantial 78% year-on-year increase to reach $1.2 billion, up from $667 million in 2024. This surge reflects sustained investor confidence in nascent fintech companies. Conversely, seed-stage funding saw a sharp decline of 40% to $177 million, while late-stage funding fell 26% to $1.0 billion.
Deal Activity and Exits
Deal-making activity showed signs of cooling. The sector recorded 22 acquisitions in 2025, a 21% decrease from the 28 deals in 2024. The year's largest transaction was Groww's $150 million acquisition of Fisdom, marking the biggest fintech deal in India for 2025. InCred Money's $35 million acquisition of Stocko was another notable transaction.
The exit landscape also saw a slowdown, with four fintech companies going public in 2025, a 50% drop from the eight IPOs in 2024. Companies that listed included Pine Labs, FinanceBuddha, Groww, and Seshaasai. Despite fewer exits, the sector produced three new unicorns in 2025, an increase from two in 2024, indicating continued potential for scaling within the ecosystem.
Hubs and Investor Trends
Bengaluru solidified its position as India's foremost fintech hub, attracting 42% of the total funding raised during the year. Mumbai followed with 29% of the funding. At the seed stage, investors like Antler, Blume Venture, and Venture Catalysts were most active. Peak XV Partners, Accel, and Elevation Capital led early-stage investments, while SoftBank Vision Fund, Lathe Investment, and Sofina were prominent late-stage investors.
