Grubhub's parent company, Wonder, has officially acquired Claim, a restaurant rewards application established in 2021. This move signals a strategic effort to bolster Grubhub's ecosystem with advanced customer acquisition and retention technologies.
Claim specializes in providing cash-back rewards for dine-in and pick-up orders at local restaurants. Its platform partners with establishments to craft targeted promotions, increase foot traffic, and offer valuable performance insights through a dedicated dashboard. Although the financial specifics of the transaction were not disclosed, Claim had previously raised $20 million, with its valuation estimated by Pitchbook at $62 million.
Enhancing Diner Value and Merchant Tools
This integration is designed to equip Grubhub's over 415,000 merchant partners with Claim's sophisticated tools, aiming to reduce customer acquisition costs and encourage repeat visits without complicating operations. For Grubhub's nearly 20 million diners, the acquisition promises greater savings and rewards when dining out.
Claim CEO and co-founder Sam Obletz highlighted the acquisition as a significant step, stating, "Joining Grubhub marks an exciting new chapter as we scale to reach millions more diners and thousands of restaurants." This sentiment was echoed by Grubhub CEO Howard Migdal, who emphasized Claim's innovative technology as a powerful new avenue for engaging diners and complementing Grubhub's existing marketing suite.
Phased Rollout and Future Integration
The acquired company's services are initially rolling out to Grubhub merchants and diners in New York City, with a nationwide expansion scheduled for later this year. Claim will continue to operate through its own app and website "for the time being." Future plans include a streamlined experience across both Grubhub and Claim applications, though specific details are yet to be revealed.
