David Sacks is moving on from his role as the White House AI and Crypto Czar. He will now co-chair the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).
New Role on Science Advisory Council
Sacks announced the move Thursday. PCAST advises the President on science, technology, and innovation policy. He joins 13 other experts on the council, gaining a platform to influence national technology direction.
Past Crypto Legislation Work
As the former U.S. crypto and AI czar, Sacks led early White House efforts in digital assets. His work included contributions to the stablecoin-focused GENIUS Act and crypto market structure legislation. The transition follows his previous 'special government employee' status, which had a 130-day working limit and had drawn criticism from congressional Democrats.
Focus on Future Technologies
The council's scope includes artificial intelligence, quantum computing, nuclear power, and other advanced technologies. Sacks plans to advance the president's AI framework and study these critical areas. Cryptocurrency was not mentioned as a specific focus for PCAST's upcoming agenda in his recent interview.
