AI Giant Anthropic Bolsters India Push with Ex-Microsoft Leader
Artificial intelligence leader Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose, the former Managing Director of Microsoft India, to spearhead its operations in the country. This strategic hire signals a significant expansion as the company prepares to launch its first Indian office in Bengaluru.
Ghose brings over three decades of technology sector experience, including a 24-year tenure at Microsoft India, where she rose through the ranks. Her mandate at Anthropic will focus on scaling the company's technological business and driving enterprise transformation across India. She noted the shift from AI experimentation to applied AI, where trust and safety are paramount.
India represents a crucial growth market for Anthropic. The nation has emerged as the second-largest user base for Claude.ai, accounting for 7.2% of its global usage, trailing only the United States. The company plans to collaborate closely with policymakers and academic institutions to foster local partnerships.
This move places Anthropic amidst a burgeoning Indian AI market, which industry reports project could reach $126 billion by 2030. Major global players like OpenAI and Google, alongside numerous Indian startups, are intensifying their focus on the subcontinent, highlighting India's growing importance in the global AI landscape.
