American artificial intelligence company Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose as the new Managing Director of India. Ghose, a seasoned executive with two decades at Microsoft, including her tenure as MD of Microsoft India, brings deep expertise in enterprise AI play across major Indian industries such as BFSI, manufacturing, healthcare, technology services, and government.
India's Growing AI Ambitions
This appointment signals Anthropic's intensified focus on the Indian market, which is already the second-largest for its large language model, Claude, behind the U.S. Anthropic aims to move beyond experimentation toward applied AI solutions that emphasize trust, safety, and long-term impact. Ghose stated that Indian organizations are increasingly adopting AI, and Anthropic's mission aligns with empowering people and creating value across India's diverse communities and languages.
Strategic Expansion and Investment
Anthropic has been strengthening its global leadership and expanding its operations. The company recently welcomed Rahul Patil as Chief Technology Officer and Paul Smith as Chief Commercial Officer. CEO and Co-founder Dario Amodei met with the Prime Minister of India during an October 2025 visit, where the company announced its expansion to India and the opening of its Bengaluru office, its second in the Indo-Pacific after Tokyo.
Market Traction and Funding
The company is investing heavily in enhancing Claude's capabilities in Indian languages, including Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. In September 2025, Anthropic completed a $13 billion Series F fundraising round at a $183 billion post-money valuation, solidifying its position as a top-tier AI firm. India's use of Claude currently focuses on technical tasks, software development, and academic materials.
