Andhra Pradesh Pushes for Visakhapatnam as Global Tech Hub
Overview

Andhra Pradesh is launching a global roadshow to position Visakhapatnam as a premier destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The state is also revamping education to align with future tech needs like AI and quantum computing, targeting a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047.

Andhra Pradesh Courts Global Investors for Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh is embarking on a major global roadshow to position Visakhapatnam as a prime location for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), aiming to attract significant technology and services investments. The state plans to transform Visakhapatnam into a dedicated GCC city, bolstered by substantial policy incentives and infrastructure development.

"I am working with Cognizant to do a road show targeting their top 100 clients and bringing them to Vishakhapatnam and creating an entire GCC city with them," stated Nara Lokesh, minister for IT, electronics, and human resources development. He added that parallel efforts are underway with developers to build the necessary ecosystem.

Boosting Economy and Skills

This initiative is part of Andhra Pradesh's ambitious plan to grow its economy from an estimated $200 billion to $2.4 trillion by 2047, requiring a sustained annual growth rate of approximately 15%. Manufacturing and services are expected to drive this expansion.

The state is also overhauling its education and skilling framework in partnership with industry. Curricula are being updated to align with emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing.

"The youth of India and more so youth of Andhra Pradesh cannot afford to be complacent. AI is a threat for us, but then every crisis presents itself with opportunities," Lokesh remarked, emphasizing the need for adaptability in the face of technological change.

Cluster Strategy for Growth

The GCC initiative is a key part of a broader cluster-based development strategy covering 22 sectors. This model integrates anchor companies with supplier ecosystems, supported by educational, skilling, and testing infrastructure.

The rollout spans three key economic regions: Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Tirupati. Comprehensive planning is underway for logistics, energy, and urban development to support these growth hubs.
