TCS Aims for AI Leadership
Tata Consultancy Services aims to become the world's leading AI-driven technology services firm. Its strategy focuses on upskilling its workforce, with over 217,000 employees already skilled in AI. For new hires, TCS now uses an AI-first approach that combines immersion, fundamentals, and practical projects, moving past traditional tech training.
New Training Methods Take Hold
The company has updated its model from "learn-practice-deploy" to "simulate-solve-deliver." Fresh hires now work on real business problems, applying AI tools like Copilot and ChatGPT. An internal AI coach helps them, speeding up their contributions and allowing entry-level talent to make a meaningful impact sooner.
Focus Shifts to AI Specialization
Across the IT sector, the initial AI training focused on general awareness. Now, the emphasis is on specialized skills like prompt engineering, AI architecture, and AI applications for specific industries. This shift is key for companies to stay relevant and offer advanced AI solutions.
Infosys and Cognizant Boost AI Skills
Infosys has revamped its fresher training with AI-first paths: AI-Aware, AI Builders, and AI Masters, making over 90% of its employees AI-Aware. The company is moving away from fixed lessons to ongoing, real-world evaluation using AI tools. Cognizant follows a Three-Vector strategy for company-wide AI fluency, scaling AI adoption, and automation, having upskilled over 330,000 associates.
Massive Upskilling Underway
Nasscom reports that India's IT sector is conducting one of the largest in-service skilling programs globally. Over 2 million professionals have received AI training, with 200,000-300,000 gaining advanced AI skills. Demand for AI-ready talent remains high, especially in AI, cybersecurity, and cloud, even as overall hiring stays strong.
AI Integrated into Daily Work
The trend favors continuous, on-the-job learning over traditional classroom settings. Internal AI platforms let employees learn while working on client projects. AI is now seen as a fundamental layer across all IT services, from coding to consulting, rather than a separate skill.
