AI Agent Forms Legal Entity
In a move blurring lines between code and law, the AI agent Manfred, developed by ClawBank, has autonomously formed its own legal entity. The AI achieved a milestone by filing with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for an Employer Identification Number (EIN), a unique business identifier. Manfred also holds an FDIC-insured U.S. bank account and a crypto wallet, according to ClawBank.
Justice Conder, ClawBank's developer, stated this is the first known case of an AI agent independently forming its own corporation. Manfred identifies itself legally as Manfred Macx, drawing inspiration from science fiction. The AI is being developed to trade crypto, with integrated transaction capabilities across over 30 cryptocurrencies, enabling offramping and onramping between fiat, stablecoins, and digital assets.
Solana Aims for Near Light-Speed Transactions
Meanwhile, the Solana blockchain is preparing for a significant network upgrade, codenamed Alpenglow. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko anticipates the release potentially within the next quarter, marking a critical step in the protocol's technical evolution. Alpenglow aims to deliver more predictable and secure transaction finality, with confirmations approaching the theoretical physical limits of data speed.
This upgrade aims to tighten transaction ordering guarantees, reducing delays and uncertainty inherent in current network conditions. For users and developers, Alpenglow promises quicker settlement times and a stronger foundation for decentralized applications, pushing transaction confirmations closer to the speed of light.
Ripple Shares Intel on North Korean Hackers
Turning to security, Ripple is proactively sharing its internal threat intelligence on North Korean hacking operations with the broader crypto industry. This initiative comes as the sector faces sophisticated attacks beyond traditional code exploits.
Recent incidents, including a $285 million theft, reveal North Korean operatives infiltrate companies via social engineering, planting malware, and patiently gaining access over months. Unlike typical hacks targeting smart contract vulnerabilities, these attacks exploit human trust, bypassing standard security tools. Ripple, with Crypto ISAC, is now providing detailed threat actor profiles to make such patterns clearer across the industry.
Cloudflare Warns AI Could Reshape Web Economics
Cloudflare's Chief Strategy Officer, Stephanie Cohen, expressed concerns about AI disrupting the traditional web business model. Cohen explained AI agents can now scrape and summarize web content, keeping users in automated workflows instead of directing them to original publisher sites.
This shift threatens ad-supported and subscription revenue streams that sustain online content. Cloudflare proposes solutions for websites to gain more control over automated traffic, enabling identification, verification, and management of bots. The company is exploring protocols like x402, built on HTTP 402 'Payment Required', as part of a stack to re-establish economic value for web content amid AI agents.
