Detailed Coverage :

Pankaj Murarka, CEO and Chief Investment Officer at Renaissance Investment Managers, manages assets worth over $196 million. He believes that Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are set to lead the next leg of the stock market rally. Murarka attributes this potential surge to government reform actions and improving company fundamentals, which are reigniting investor interest. He specifically points to recent clarity on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) subsidy sharing and stable oil prices that have boosted OMC cash flows. Furthermore, significant foreign inflows into the financial sector (over $10 billion in the last eight weeks) and talks of potential bank consolidation are adding to the optimism surrounding state-owned lenders.

Despite a strong run between 2022 and early 2024, Murarka considers valuations across the PSU sector to still be attractive, as many companies were trading at single-digit price-to-earnings multiples, indicating the rally started from a low base. Beyond PSUs, his portfolio favors private sector banks and internet companies. He anticipates a rebound in IT and consumer stocks in 2026, which have lagged this year. For the consumer sector, festive demand has shown surprising strength, with Maruti Suzuki experiencing 100% year-on-year growth in festive bookings and multi-week waiting periods for several models. Murarka expects this consumption pickup to continue, supported by robust household finances and pent-up demand. He also sees early signs of a turnaround in the IT sector, with earnings potentially bottoming out, attractive valuations due to a 17-18% year-to-date stock decline, and a projected recovery in global IT spending next year.

Regarding the broader market, Murarka noted that the September-quarter earnings season was better than expected, with no major downgrades for the first time in over a year, and some upgrades occurring. He forecasts an acceleration in earnings growth in the second half of the fiscal year, which could strengthen market sentiment. Murarka advises a 100% equity allocation for investors.
