Nifty Tests 22,500 Support Amid 6.65% September Decline

The Nifty 50 is testing critical support at 22,500 following a 6.65% drop throughout September. Higher US Treasury yields are currently pressuring Indian stocks, outweighing the relief from softer crude oil prices. Investors are now monitoring these support levels closely to see if the downward trend continues or if the market finds a base.

The Indian equity market is navigating a challenging period as the Nifty 50 tests a significant support level near the 22,500 mark. This testing comes after a difficult September, which saw the index fall by approximately 6.65%. For investors, the focus is now on whether this support area will hold or if the index will slide further.

Technical indicators suggest that the recent decline has been quite sharp, which historically can lead to a pause or a temporary rebound in prices. However, the current market structure shows that buyers are not yet stepping in with enough conviction to stop the slide. Analysts are keeping a close watch on the 22,200 to 22,500 range, which is viewed as the final buffer for the current trend. If the index fails to stay above these levels, it could signal more selling pressure. On the upside, resistance levels are now firmly placed between 22,800 and 23,000, meaning the market would need strong buying support to move past these points.

Global factors are playing a major role in the current market weakness. While the cost of crude oil has softened, which is generally a positive for the Indian economy, this is being overshadowed by rising US interest rates. When US 10-year Treasury yields rise above 5.2 percent, international investors often move money out of emerging markets like India to benefit from safer, higher returns in the US. This movement of capital creates a persistent hurdle for Indian equity valuations, making it difficult for the market to sustain a recovery.

The banking sector is also facing significant pressure, with the Bank Nifty index falling below the 54,000 mark. This is a psychological barrier that often changes how traders view the trend. The index is currently retesting patterns that suggest volatility is likely to continue. Investors are paying attention to the 53,300 level as a potential anchor point that could determine the next direction for the index. A sustained recovery above the 55,300 resistance level is considered necessary to shift the current negative sentiment back to a more stable outlook.

For investors, the primary monitorable in the coming days will be whether the Nifty 50 can stabilize near its current support zones without further breakdown. The market reaction will likely depend on global bond yield movements and whether foreign institutional flows show signs of stabilizing. Until the index establishes a clear support base, the environment remains volatile, requiring caution and a focus on domestic earnings and macroeconomic updates rather than short-term market noise.
