Nifty Set for Potential Rebound; 24,000 Remains Key Hurdle

Indian markets are expected to open higher today, tracking a positive overnight rally in US indices. Despite the recovery, the Nifty 50 faces a difficult climb to clear the 24,000 resistance level, with high crude oil prices and geopolitical risks continuing to pressure sentiment.

The Nifty 50 is poised for a positive start on Friday, September 4, 2026, looking to break a four-session losing streak that saw the index close at 23,873 in the previous session. Early indicators, including GIFT Nifty, suggest a recovery, following a strong overnight performance by US markets. The Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq all registered gains after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller hinted that interest rates might remain stable, which helped calm global investor anxiety.

While the bounce in global markets provides relief, the Nifty 50 still faces significant challenges. The 24,000 level has turned into a strong psychological barrier. Technical analysts view the 24,000 to 24,050 range as immediate resistance. For the index to show a sustained recovery, it needs to cross and hold above this zone. On the flip side, if the index cannot maintain its momentum, the 23,800 level acts as the primary support zone. A failure to hold this support could potentially drag the index lower toward 23,600.

Investors must also weigh these technical signals against the fragile global environment. A major concern remains the elevated price of Brent crude oil, which is trading near $96 per barrel. Higher oil prices can increase inflation risks for India, which often puts pressure on corporate margins and the broader economy. Furthermore, the ongoing conflict involving the US and Iran adds a layer of uncertainty to global trade and energy supplies, keeping volatility high across the market.

Trading on both the NSE and BSE will continue as usual today, as it is not a market holiday despite the Krishna Janmashtami festival. Given the current volatility, the most important factor for investors to track today is whether the index can hold the 23,800 support level during the session. A failure to do so, combined with any negative movement in energy prices or global geopolitical news, could invite further selling pressure.
