The Nifty 50 index is stuck in a narrow range near 23,375 as weakness in IT stocks offsets gains in financial services. With buying volume remaining cautious, investors are focused on key support levels to gauge the next move.
The Nifty 50 index continues to face a tug-of-war between buying and selling pressure, currently trading in a tight range around the 23,375 mark. While the session began with a minor upward move, the lack of sustained buying volume indicates that market participants are proceeding with caution. This indecision is keeping the index restricted, preventing a clear breakout in either direction.
A key driver of this split sentiment is the performance of specific sectors. Financial services are acting as a buffer, providing necessary stability to the index. Notably, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv have seen gains of 2.6 per cent and 2.0 per cent respectively, helping to offset weakness elsewhere. In contrast, the IT sector is acting as a drag on overall market performance. Key blue-chip companies such as TCS and Wipro have recorded declines, with both falling by 0.75 per cent. This sectoral divergence—where financials rise while technology shares slide—suggests that the market is currently lacking a broad-based push from all sectors.
From a technical perspective, the index faces significant resistance in the 23,425 to 23,480 range. For the Nifty to regain positive momentum, a decisive move above the 23,480 mark is necessary. Without this, technical patterns point toward a potential continuation of the existing downtrend. Downside risks also remain a point of concern for market participants. The 23,200 level is currently being watched as a critical support zone. If the index fails to hold this floor, it could signal further selling pressure, potentially testing the 23,100 level in the near term. The current mix of hesitant buying and cautious institutional activity suggests that traders are waiting for a more definitive signal before committing to larger positions. Investors will be monitoring whether the index can maintain its current support levels or if the downward pressure in technology stocks forces a re-test of lower zones.
