Indian equity markets experienced a downturn in afternoon trade, with the Nifty and Sensex both slipping. This sentiment was influenced by weak global signals and hawkish remarks from the US Federal Reserve, with the Bihar election results also largely priced in.
Despite the broader market weakness, several individual stocks showed significant strength. **Muthoot Finance** was a star performer, jumping 10.66% to a new high. This surge was fueled by its Q2 FY26 standalone net profit, which leaped 87% year-on-year to Rs 2,345 crore, supported by a substantial increase in interest income and a 10% rise in gold loan Assets Under Management (AUM).
**Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited** hit a 10% upper circuit. The company announced that the World Bank has removed it from its debarred list and granted an extension for a sanctions case explanation, significantly easing concerns related to a past bribery allegation.
**Jubilant FoodWorks Limited** recorded its strongest single-day gain in over 15 months, climbing by 8.5%. This was driven by its Q2 FY26 net profit nearly tripling to Rs 186 crore, a significant improvement from Rs 64 crore in the prior year.
**Bharat Dynamics Limited** also saw a robust rally, up 7.3%, after announcing a major Rs 2,095.70 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence to supply Invar anti-tank missiles. Healthy Q3 results further bolstered investor confidence.
Impact: These stock-specific movements highlight that even in a weak market, strong fundamentals, significant contract wins, or resolution of regulatory issues can drive substantial gains for individual companies. Investors are closely watching earnings and order books, especially in sectors like finance, defence, and consumer durables.
