Coforge, OFSS Defy Nifty IT Downturn as Index Loses ₹6 Trillion

While the Nifty IT index has shed ₹6.37 trillion in value year-to-date, Coforge and Oracle Financial Services Software have emerged as rare outperformers. Driven by product-led business models and aggressive expansion, these stocks have decoupled from the 17% sector decline. However, investors are now closely weighing these gains against stretched valuations and the pressure for consistent earnings delivery in a slowing demand environment.

The broader technology sector in India is navigating a difficult year, with the Nifty IT index falling approximately 17% and wiping out about ₹6.37 trillion in market capitalization year-to-date. Industry giants such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, and Wipro have faced significant headwinds, with their valuations dropping between 26% and 30% as global demand for traditional IT services softens and companies cut discretionary tech spending. In this challenging environment, Coforge and Oracle Financial Services Software have stood out, maintaining positive momentum that contrasts sharply with their peers.

Product-Led Growth at OFSS

Oracle Financial Services Software has separated itself from the crowd by focusing on high-margin, product-led revenue. Unlike traditional service providers that bill by the hour or project, the company’s core banking software business generates recurring licensing and support fees. This model has provided a buffer against the wider sector slowdown. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, the company reported a massive 120.6% year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to ₹1,416 crore, with revenue climbing 68.7% to ₹3,125 crore. For investors, this performance highlights the stability of a product-focused business during times of economic uncertainty.

Scaling Through Acquisitions at Coforge

Coforge has charted a different path, relying on aggressive inorganic growth and a pivot toward modern technology to sustain its trajectory. The company entered the current fiscal year with a record $2.23 billion executable order book. By integrating businesses like SLK Global, Cigniti, and Encora, the firm has rapidly scaled its capabilities in areas like cloud, data, and AI-driven engineering, which now account for a substantial portion of its revenue. This strategy has allowed the firm to capture demand in niches where spending remains resilient, even while broader IT budgets are being trimmed.

Risks and Future Execution

Despite the recent outperformance, the path ahead for both companies involves significant challenges. Their rapid stock price appreciation has led to elevated valuations, meaning investors now expect near-flawless execution. For Coforge, the primary monitorable is the successful synergy of its recent acquisitions and the conversion of its large order book into actual revenue. For Oracle Financial Services Software, the focus remains on the sustained monetization of its core banking franchise. The broader IT sector continues to face pressure from potential global spending slowdowns, which could eventually test even the most resilient business models. Investors may need to track whether these two companies can maintain their growth premiums if the overall market environment remains volatile.
