Mantra Group, a prominent deeptech firm specializing in identity, security, computer vision, and AI solutions, has successfully closed its inaugural institutional funding round, securing about $14 million (Rs 125 crore). The investment was spearheaded by India SME Fund II, with additional participation from Motilal Oswal Principal Investments.
According to Hiren Bhandari, co-Founder of Mantra Group, this capital infusion will be instrumental in driving the company's next phase of innovation and expansion. A significant portion will be allocated to doubling investments in research and development (R&D), patent acquisition, and intellectual property (IP) creation. The company also plans to establish a dedicated Center of Excellence focused on AI and Computer Vision. Furthermore, it aims to scale its DSIR-approved R&D efforts and expedite the development of new products.
Bhavyen Bhandari, also a co-Founder, highlighted the company's strong market presence, noting that over 20 of India's top 100 corporations currently utilize their enterprise stack for workforce management and access control. Future plans include extending these solutions to a greater number of airports across India and expanding internationally, alongside scaling enterprise deployments in West Asia.
Mitin Jain, Founder and Managing Director of India SME Fund, expressed confidence in Mantra Group's potential for global growth, citing its experience in national ID programs and security deployments, coupled with its technological leadership. He added that their capital and partnership approach would further support Mantra Group's expansion and product innovation.
Impact: This funding round signifies strong investor confidence in India's deeptech and AI sectors. It will enable Mantra Group to enhance its technological capabilities, develop new products, and expand its market reach, potentially leading to increased competition and innovation within the identity, security, and AI solutions landscape. The focus on R&D and IP creation could lead to valuable patents and advanced solutions. The expansion into airports and international markets suggests a scalable business model. Rating: 7/10
