Indian Startup Funding Slows, but IPO Pipeline and M&A Activity Remain Strong

Indian startup funding experienced a slowdown during the first week of November (November 3-7), with only 20 startups collectively raising $237.8 million. This represents a 36% decrease compared to the $371 million raised by 30 startups in the preceding week.

Despite the overall dip, enterprise technology startup MoEngage raised the week's sole mega-funding round, securing $100 million from Goldman Sachs Alternatives and A91 Partners. The AI sector also continued to attract investor interest, with six startups raising a combined $67.6 million.

In the startup IPO arena, Lenskart's INR 7,278 crore IPO closed with a substantial 28.26X oversubscription. Groww's INR 6,600 crore IPO also closed with a 17.6X oversubscription. PhysicsWallah filed its IPO papers for INR 3,480 crore, and regulators approved Shiprocket's confidential DRHP, with Zepto also planning to file its DRHP soon. However, Pine Labs' IPO opening saw a muted response on its first day.

Fund updates included ChrysCapital closing its tenth fund at $2.2 billion and the launch of Novastar Partners by former Wall Street banker Dhruv Jhunjhunwala.

Other developments include Swiggy's board approving plans to raise INR 10,000 crore, TVS Motor selling its stake worth INR 287.9 crore in Rapido, and Karnataka government announcing a INR 600 crore plan to support deeptech entrepreneurs.
