Walmart Eyes Global Growth for Indian Brands
Walmart President and CEO John Furner met select Indian entrepreneurs Saturday, discussing how the retail giant can help digital-first brands expand globally. The New Delhi session focused on using e-commerce and international marketplaces to scale businesses in sectors like beauty, personal care, food, and apparel.
Furner called the experience "energizing," emphasizing Walmart's commitment to support these businesses by connecting them with customers worldwide. He highlighted the founders' ambition, focus on quality, innovation, and customer experience. The meeting signals Walmart's strategy to become a long-term partner for Indian exporters aiming for international reach, beyond its retail role.
Founders Highlight Key Growth Challenges
Entrepreneurs at the meeting stressed the need for predictable demand and streamlined operations to succeed in India's crowded digital market. A recurring theme was the desire for greater market access and operational consistency, as founders seek reliable ways to grow beyond India's borders in a competitive online space.
Manish Joneja, Walmart Marketplace Senior Vice President, recognized these points. He noted that while Indian brands lead in product innovation and digital agility, they need more consistent demand visibility and operational execution. Walmart plans to offer these fundamentals via its marketplace and development programs.
Flipkart's Support for Brand Growth
Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy also emphasized the platform's role in backing emerging brands. He stated that Flipkart helps businesses expand by providing market access and building capabilities. The company remains committed to supporting sellers and entrepreneurs throughout their growth, especially as they enter new markets.
Walmart's Integrated Ecosystem Strategy
This initiative aligns with Walmart's broader goal to foster an integrated ecosystem in India. Services offered include sourcing, digital commerce, payments, and supply chain support, all aimed at connecting Indian sellers with global consumers. The effort seeks to build strong international trade ties and boost Indian brands worldwide.
