Provision Labs Acquires Basilisk Industries for Physical AI Push

Provision Labs, the physical AI firm led by Anjali Sardana, has acquired Mumbai-based hardware startup Basilisk Industries. The move aims to integrate tactile technology into AI systems. This is a private deal, meaning the company remains unlisted and there is no direct impact on Indian stock exchanges.

Provision Labs, a startup focused on physical AI and data infrastructure, has acquired Basilisk Industries to strengthen its hardware and robotics capabilities. The acquisition marks a strategic push by the San Francisco-based firm to blend its software deployment layers with high-fidelity physical sensors and tactile technologies.

As part of the integration, Basilisk Industries founder Shourya Watwani will join Provision Labs as the Head of Hardware. His mandate will be to lead the development of specialized hand-tracking models and tactile gloves. By bringing hardware expertise in-house, Provision Labs aims to accelerate the training of AI systems that can interact with and navigate real-world environments.

Business Context and Private Status

Provision Labs is a private entity and is not listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Consequently, there is no public stock price reaction or official exchange filing regarding this acquisition. The firm is backed by high-profile investors including General Catalyst, Bain Capital Ventures, Lachy Groom, and Glade Brook Capital, which underscores investor interest in the physical AI sector.

The company is led by Anjali Sardana, who is also the CEO of the household services startup Pronto. While this dual leadership position highlights her involvement in the startup ecosystem, investors and observers typically monitor whether such leadership roles impact operational bandwidth in fast-moving sectors like robotics and artificial intelligence.

Strategic Challenges

The physical AI field is highly competitive, and the success of this acquisition will depend on how effectively Provision Labs integrates custom hardware with its existing software models. Because the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the market has limited information on the valuation or the immediate cash flow impact on the venture.

Another point that stakeholders often track in such developments involves data sourcing. As Provision Labs continues to build its infrastructure, questions regarding how it accesses training data—and whether there is any operational overlap with Pronto’s user data—remain a subject of interest for industry analysts. The company is currently expanding its technical teams across global hubs, including Bengaluru, as it seeks to scale its research and production efforts.
