Mirae Asset Venture India Closes New Fund at ₹1,125 Crore

Mirae Asset Venture Investments India has raised ₹1,125 crore for its latest private fund to support early-growth stage startups. This third India-focused fund, backed by partners including Naver and KRAFTON, targets sectors like AI, deep tech, and advanced manufacturing. Investors should watch how this capital is deployed to bridge funding gaps in Series B and D rounds.

Mirae Asset Venture Investments India (MAVI India) has successfully completed the first close of its new fund, the Mirae Asset Venture Opportunity Fund II, securing ₹1,125 crore. This development marks the firm's third dedicated private fund focused on the Indian market as it continues to expand its local investment footprint. The fund has a total target corpus of ₹1,800 crore, supplemented by a ₹700 crore green shoe option, allowing it to scale its investment capacity based on market opportunities.

Backing and Strategic Focus

The primary backing for this first close comes from the Unicorn Growth Fund, a collaborative partnership between MAVI India, Naver, and KRAFTON, which contributed ₹1,020 crore. Mirae Asset's domestic Indian entities provided the remaining ₹105 crore. According to Puneet Kumar, CEO of MAVI India, the firm aims to address a specific funding gap that many startups face between their Series B and Series D funding stages. By focusing on these early-growth stages, the fund plans to provide the capital necessary for companies that have already established product-market fit to scale their operations effectively.

The fund’s investment mandate includes high-growth sectors considered critical to India's next phase of economic expansion. These areas include artificial intelligence, software platforms, deep technology, advanced manufacturing, and the consumer discretionary segment. The firm intends to partner with founders at these critical junctures to help them build category-leading businesses both within India and on the global stage.

Historical Track Record and Market Context

Over the past eight years, MAVI India has maintained an active presence in the Indian startup ecosystem. Its portfolio includes investments in various ventures such as Shadowfax, Raise (Dhan), and Kreditbee. This new fund is a continuation of the firm's strategy to support companies that are past the initial seed-funding phase but require significant growth capital to reach maturity.

Risks and Market Realities

While the influx of capital into the ecosystem is significant, early-growth stage investing involves inherent market and liquidity risks. Startups in the Series B to D categories face high execution pressure as they must transition from proving their business model to achieving sustainable scale. The success of this fund will depend on the ability of portfolio companies to navigate macroeconomic volatility and maintain growth trajectories in a highly competitive environment. Additionally, the venture capital sector remains sensitive to broader market conditions, which can influence company valuations and potential exit opportunities for investors. The key monitorable for stakeholders will be the pace of capital deployment and the specific types of startups the fund selects in this current economic climate.
