Meesho reported a 34.5% rise in revenue to ₹12,626 crore for FY26, but free cash flow shifted to a negative ₹633 crore. While user growth remains strong, the company faces rising competition and significant tax disputes, which investors should track alongside the firm's path to future profitability.
Meesho has released its financial results for the fiscal year 2026, highlighting a period of aggressive expansion that has pressured the company's cash position. The e-commerce platform reported a 34.5% jump in revenue from operations, reaching ₹12,626 crore. However, this growth came at the cost of free cash flow, which fell to a negative ₹633 crore, reversing the positive ₹591 crore seen in the previous year.
Impact of Spending on Cash Flow
The shift to negative cash flow is primarily tied to the company's strategy of capturing market share. Meesho increased spending on customer acquisition and logistics to support its expanding user base. While annual transacting users grew by 33% to 264 million and total orders hit 2.67 billion, these efforts impacted operating margins. The marketplace adjusted EBITDA margin widened to a loss of 2.8% of the Net Merchandise Value, compared to a loss of 0.4% in FY25. Additionally, the contribution margin contracted to 3.5%, down from 4.9% in the prior year, reflecting the rising costs of serving a larger customer base in a competitive market.
Competitive Pressures and Tax Disputes
Investors are keeping a close watch on risks that could impact the company’s future financial health. Beyond the intense competition from established players like Flipkart and Amazon, Meesho is dealing with rising regulatory challenges. Exchange filings and company updates indicate that tax disputes for the firm have surged to ₹2,071.8 crore in FY26. Such large liabilities can create financial uncertainty and may affect the cash reserves of the company, which stood at ₹6,750 crore at the end of the year, including funds from its December 2025 IPO.
Strategic Push Toward AI Efficiency
To counter rising costs, the company is looking toward technology to improve efficiency. Meesho has introduced an AI-powered voice-shopping agent named Vaani. The company noted that the tool reached 1.5 million users within the first month and helped achieve a 22% increase in conversion for those using the feature. Management intends to use such tools to reduce customer service expenses and improve transaction ease. While net losses narrowed by 65.6% to ₹1,358 crore in FY26—helped by the absence of one-time restructuring costs seen last year—the success of these technological investments will be critical for long-term margins. The key monitorables for shareholders moving forward will be the status of the tax disputes, the company’s ability to stabilize margins amid logistics consolidation, and how quickly its AI-driven initiatives can translate into sustainable profitability.
