Index Ventures Raises $2 Billion Across Three New Funds

Global venture capital firm Index Ventures has secured $2 billion in fresh capital, including a $400 million seed fund and a $900 million venture fund. This fundraising follows the firm’s profitable exit from its stake in cloud security company Wiz, which was acquired by Alphabet for $32 billion. Investors may track how this increased liquidity impacts the firm's allocation strategy in the competitive artificial intelligence and robotics sectors.

Index Ventures has successfully closed a $2 billion capital raise, expanding its total dry powder—or available capital for investment—to approximately $3.5 billion. The new capital is divided into a $400 million seed-focused fund, a $900 million main venture fund, and a $700 million expansion of its existing growth fund, which had previously raised $1.5 billion in 2024. This move allows the firm to maintain its investment pace during a period when many venture capital firms are adjusting their strategies amid fluctuating market conditions for emerging technology startups.

The firm's recent fundraising momentum is significantly tied to the successful performance of its portfolio companies. Most notably, the acquisition of cloud security provider Wiz by Alphabet for $32 billion served as a major liquidity event. Index Ventures held a reported 12% stake in Wiz as its largest outside shareholder, a position valued at roughly $3.8 billion. Such exits provide venture firms with the necessary capital returns to attract new commitments from institutional investors who remain cautious about the long-term profitability of high-valuation startups.

Strategic Focus on AI and Hardware

With the newly raised capital, Index Ventures is intensifying its focus on the artificial intelligence ecosystem and related hardware integration. The firm has already signaled its strategy through recent participations in funding rounds for companies like Physical Intelligence, which works in robotics, and Fireworks AI, an inference platform. These investments follow the firm's earlier entry into Anthropic, a major player in the large language model space, which held an $18.3 billion valuation during the firm's initial investment in September 2025.

While the firm continues to deploy capital into high-growth sectors, investors should note the risks associated with such strategies. Investments in early-stage AI and robotics companies involve significant execution risk, as many of these firms are still developing their core products and have yet to prove sustainable business models. Additionally, the broader venture capital sector is currently navigating pressure from higher interest rates, which can reduce the number of initial public offerings and acquisition opportunities, potentially lengthening the time it takes for firms to return capital to their investors.

The next important monitorable for those tracking the impact of these funds will be the speed at which this $2 billion is deployed and whether the firm can replicate the success seen with investments like Wiz or Figma in the current, more volatile economic environment. Future updates on portfolio valuation and follow-on funding rounds for companies like Anthropic will likely provide better insight into the health of these investments.
