Gautam Adani Launches ‘Vande Bharatam’ to Scout Grassroots Talent

To mark his 64th birthday, Gautam Adani has introduced Vande Bharatam, a nationwide initiative to mentor and support innovators and entrepreneurs. The program aims to bridge the gap for grassroots talent in smaller towns and rural areas by providing them with a national platform for mentorship and investment, moving beyond traditional startup hubs.

What Happened

On his 64th birthday, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, launched a new national initiative called Vande Bharatam. This program is designed to identify and support entrepreneurs, innovators, and problem-solvers across all 36 states and union territories in India. The initiative seeks to expand the country's startup ecosystem by reaching beyond the top five metropolitan cities, where more than 80 per cent of founders currently emerge, according to official statements. The program is open to participants of all ages and backgrounds, whether they have a concept, a prototype, or an established small business.

How The Initiative Works

Vande Bharatam intends to democratize access to mentorship, investment, and networking. Unlike many traditional startup programs that focus on established companies, this initiative welcomes individuals with ideas or early-stage solutions. Participants from diverse sectors—including technology, manufacturing, sustainability, agriculture, and traditional crafts—are encouraged to apply. The group has placed special emphasis on promoting participation from women, rural innovators, tribal entrepreneurs, and Divyang entrepreneurs.

A multi-stage evaluation process will ultimately select 75 finalists. These participants will be invited to Ahmedabad for an intensive mentorship program, allowing them to engage with industry leaders, investors, and business experts. The program will culminate in a Grand Finale around Independence Day.

Expanding the Adani Foundation's Reach

This initiative aligns with the Adani Group’s broader commitment to nation-building and its philosophy of "Growth with Goodness." The group’s philanthropic arm, the Adani Foundation, has been active since 1996, focusing on education, health, and sustainable livelihoods.

By launching Vande Bharatam, the group is integrating its startup support activities more deeply with its existing corporate social responsibility (CSR) framework. In recent years, the foundation has focused on scaling initiatives in rural India, impacting millions of lives across thousands of villages. This new program adds a layer of economic empowerment by targeting grassroots innovation, which the group views as essential for realizing the goal of a developed India by 2047.

The Strategic Intent

For the Adani Group, this effort serves to strengthen its engagement with the emerging Indian entrepreneurial landscape. While the initiative itself is a philanthropic endeavor rather than a commercial deal, it reflects a shift in how large conglomerates are seeking to nurture local talent to drive long-term economic participation.

What Investors Should Monitor

Investors and observers often track such initiatives as part of the group’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitments. While Vande Bharatam is a CSR-driven program, the key monitorable for stakeholders remains the group’s overall execution of its philanthropic and community goals, which are aligned with its long-term commitment to sustainable development and large-scale infrastructure projects. Those interested in the program can track further developments, such as the announcement of the 75 finalists and the progress of the Grand Finale, through the initiative's official platform.
