CoinSwitch Ventures Rebrands to BlackLane Capital, Focuses on Equity

CoinSwitch Ventures has rebranded to BlackLane Capital, shifting its investment focus from token-based assets to direct equity. The firm aims to deploy $100 million into early-stage startups over the next five years. This strategic pivot follows parent company PeepalCo achieving operational profitability in FY26.

CoinSwitch Ventures has officially rebranded its investment arm to BlackLane Capital, marking a significant shift in its strategy for the startup ecosystem. The firm is moving away from its previous, heavy focus on Web3 and token-based investments to prioritize direct equity stakes in early-stage companies. This change is designed to broaden the firm's reach into sectors such as fintech, enterprise infrastructure, and consumer applications, rather than limiting investments to blockchain-related projects.

Strategic Pivot to Equity

The most notable change under the BlackLane Capital banner is the shift in asset composition. Previously, the investment arm maintained a balanced split between tokens and equity. Under the new strategy, this has been rebalanced to a 90:10 ratio, with 90 percent of capital now directed into equity. This approach signals a move toward a more traditional venture capital model. The firm plans to leverage its existing network of over 100 global venture partners, including established names like Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and Coinbase Ventures, to support this new focus.

Scaling Investment Commitments

BlackLane Capital has set a target to facilitate over $100 million in startup funding over the next five years. To support this growth, the firm is significantly increasing its investment check sizes. Previously, the firm typically invested between $100,000 and $200,000 per deal. Under the new strategy, it is prepared to increase those investments to as much as $5 million per company. This capacity will be directed toward businesses that show global scalability from the start, with a particular interest in emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Nigeria.

Financial Context and Parent Group

The rebranding occurs as the parent company, PeepalCo, shows signs of financial stability. The group recently achieved profitability on an adjusted EBITDA basis in FY26, reflecting a period of financial growth. BlackLane Capital will continue to operate as an independent firm while drawing on the operational expertise and infrastructure provided by PeepalCo.

What Investors Should Track

While the firm is moving toward a traditional equity model, the success of this strategy will depend on several factors. The transition from Web3-focused investments to general equity requires different due diligence and operational expertise, which poses an execution risk. Furthermore, the broader startup ecosystem faces ongoing market volatility, which could influence the firm's ability to deploy its targeted capital effectively. Investors and industry participants will monitor how the firm executes its pivot into sectors like AI and enterprise infrastructure, and whether its larger ticket sizes translate into successful portfolio growth.

Note: This entity, BlackLane Capital, is separate from the mobility service Blacklane, which was acquired by Uber earlier in 2026.
