Theleme India Master Fund has offloaded a 0.99% stake in IIFL Capital Services for Rs 108.7 crore. Meanwhile, Birlasoft shares rose nearly 12% following a 37.5% year-on-year profit increase and a fresh institutional stake purchase by Societe Generale.
Institutional activity dominated the market on Thursday, with major block deals occurring across the financial and IT sectors. London-based Theleme Partners, through its Theleme India Master Fund, reduced its holding in IIFL Capital Services by selling 31.24 lakh shares. The transaction, valued at approximately Rs 108.7 crore, was executed at an average price of Rs 348.01 per share. This sale represents 0.99 percent of the company's total paid-up equity. Despite this institutional exit, the stock showed resilience, closing 0.45 percent higher at Rs 347.75. As of September 2026, Theleme had held a 1.72 percent stake in the wealth management company.
Birlasoft Gains Following Q2 Results
While institutional money flowed out of IIFL Capital Services, Birlasoft attracted fresh foreign interest. Global investment firm Societe Generale acquired a 0.58 percent stake in the IT services company, purchasing 16.47 lakh shares for Rs 56.31 crore at an average price of Rs 341.78 per share. This entry coincides with a strong performance from Birlasoft, which recently reported a 37.5 percent year-on-year profit increase to Rs 159.6 crore for the September quarter. The company’s bottom line was supported by growth in other income and a reduction in tax liabilities. Driven by both the positive earnings update and the new institutional backing, Birlasoft shares surged 11.89 percent, closing at Rs 342.50.
Stake Sale at Interactive Financial Services
In a smaller transaction, Interactive Financial Services also saw changes in its shareholding. Varsha Chugh, the wife of investor Ashish Chugh, sold 53,068 shares, amounting to a 0.76 percent stake in the firm. The deal was executed at an average price of Rs 11.39 per share, totaling Rs 6.04 lakh. Despite the insider stake sale, the stock maintained positive momentum, finishing the day up 3.38 percent at Rs 11.61.
Investors looking at these developments may note that institutional buying and selling often reflect shifting portfolio strategies rather than just company-specific outlooks. For Birlasoft, the combination of strong quarterly earnings and foreign institutional entry serves as a primary monitorable for future price movement, while for IIFL Capital Services, the market will likely track if the stock price can sustain support levels following the exit of an existing shareholder.
