Sensex Gains 383 Points; Nifty 50 Nears 24,000 Mark

Indian stock markets recorded a fifth consecutive day of gains on November 4, 2026. The Sensex closed at 77,301, while the Nifty 50 finished at 23,960 as buying in auto and metal stocks offset weakness in technology shares.

Indian stock market indices extended their winning streak to five consecutive sessions on November 4, 2026. The BSE Sensex closed the day at 77,301.40, a rise of 383.55 points, or 0.50%. The NSE Nifty 50 followed a similar trend, ending at 23,960.60, up by 149.75 points, or 0.63%. Despite a volatile opening that saw both indices dip into negative territory, aggressive buying in late trade helped them recover to close near the day's high points.

The day’s performance was driven by a distinct shift in investor preference. Buying interest was focused on domestic-facing and cyclical industries. Sectors like media, metal, realty, and auto witnessed robust demand, helping the indices overcome early pressure. Conversely, the technology sector acted as a drag on the broader market. The Nifty IT index fell over 1%, led by losses in major companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, and Infosys. This rotation suggests that while investors remain positive on domestic growth, global-facing technology stocks are facing pressure, possibly linked to uncertainty surrounding US midterm election outcomes and their potential impact on AI investments and trade policies.

Broader market participation remained strong, with mid-cap and small-cap indices outperforming the main benchmarks. The Nifty Midcap 100 index gained 1.55%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 rose by 2%. This performance indicates that investor sentiment remains healthy outside the large-cap space. Additionally, the India VIX, which measures market expectations of near-term volatility, cooled to 15.28, signaling a decrease in market anxiety.

Looking ahead, investors will be closely monitoring global cues, particularly developments regarding energy prices and geopolitical stability, which can influence domestic industrial costs. The divergence between the IT sector's performance and the broader market recovery will also remain a key area for analysis, as traders assess whether the selling in technology stocks is a temporary reaction to macro uncertainties or a longer-term trend.
