Sensex Gains 245 Points; Adani Ports Profit Jumps 18%

Indian markets rebounded on Thursday with the Sensex rising 245 points, supported by buying from institutional investors. Adani Ports led the charge as the company reported an 18% growth in net profit to Rs 3,682.44 crore. While domestic sentiment is positive, investors remain watchful of global challenges, including high crude oil prices and rising US bond yields.

Indian equity markets showed resilience on Thursday, with the BSE Sensex closing 245.43 points higher at 73,491.46. The NSE Nifty also followed the positive trend, rising 62.55 points to reach 22,761.40. This recovery comes as domestic and foreign institutional investors showed renewed buying interest, helping the indices offset losses from previous sessions.

Institutional Buying Aids Market Recovery

Market data indicates that institutional investors were net buyers on Wednesday, with Foreign Institutional Investors purchasing Rs 871.83 crore worth of shares, while Domestic Institutional Investors added Rs 643.35 crore. This capital inflow provided a necessary buffer for the indices, which had been facing volatility due to global economic factors. The ability of the market to sustain these gains indicates that domestic support is playing a key role in stabilizing valuations.

Adani Ports Results and Market Movers

Adani Ports stood out among large-cap stocks, with its share price rising 3 percent. The company’s performance was supported by a solid quarterly report, which showed its consolidated net profit growing by 18 percent to Rs 3,682.44 crore. Reliance Industries also attracted investor attention, contributing positively to the overall index movement. Meanwhile, shares of Jio Platforms continued to see active trading following its recent market debut.

However, not all stocks shared the optimism. Shares such as Trent, Maruti Suzuki, and HDFC Bank faced selling pressure, closing the day in the red. This mixed performance shows that investors are being selective and focusing on company-specific results rather than moving the entire market in one direction.

Global Macro Challenges Persist

Despite the domestic recovery, investors remain cautious due to broader economic pressures. High crude oil prices and persistent inflation remain key concerns for the near term. Furthermore, the 10-year US bond yield hovering near 5 percent suggests that international capital could prioritize other Asian markets, which may potentially divert flows from India. Additionally, experts are closely monitoring the impact of monsoon deficiency, which has raised concerns about potential inflation risks. Investors will likely continue to track global interest rate trends, oil prices, and quarterly earnings for further market direction.
