Promoter entity Sagility B V sold a 12% stake in Sagility on October 30 for ₹2,395 crore. While institutional buyers acquired a portion of the shares, the stock fell 5.78% as the market digested the massive supply. Investors are now observing the stock's stability following this significant ownership change.
Sagility B V, a promoter entity of the healthcare technology firm Sagility, offloaded an 11.96% stake in the company on October 30 through a block deal. The sale involved 56 crore shares traded at an average price of ₹42.76 per share, totaling ₹2,394.56 crore. Following the announcement of this large stake sale, the company's shares faced immediate downward pressure, closing the session 5.78% lower at ₹42.08 as investors reacted to the increased supply of shares on the market.
While the promoter exited a significant portion of their holding, the transaction saw participation from several large institutional investors. Notable buyers included BNP Paribas Financial Markets, Societe Generale, Goldman Sachs Funds, and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. These institutional entities collectively acquired a 5.19% stake, valued at over ₹1,039 crore. This indicates that while the market absorbed part of the selling pressure, the sheer volume of shares available led to a decline in the stock price.
Investors may now watch how the stock performs as the market digests this new supply. The key focus for shareholders will be on the company’s ability to maintain its growth trajectory and business fundamentals following this change in the shareholding structure. Future performance will likely depend on the company's operating results rather than just the ownership changes.
Beyond the Sagility transaction, Friday’s market activity included other portfolio adjustments by large funds. US-based Smallcap World Fund increased its holding in Mumbai-based Sri Lotus Developers and Realty, acquiring an additional 1.41 crore shares. This transaction, valued at approximately ₹339 crore, helped push the developer's share price up by 1.36% to end the session at ₹245.98.
In the pharmaceutical sector, SBI Life Insurance Company expanded its position in Strides Pharma Science. The insurer purchased 6.62 lakh shares at an average price of ₹1,045.28, representing a 0.71% increase in its ownership. Despite this institutional buying activity, the share price of Strides Pharma Science fell 2.62% during the day, finishing at ₹1,068.80 as the stock struggled to maintain its momentum.
