SEBI Cancels 15 Investment Adviser Licenses Over Unpaid Fees

The Securities and Exchange Board of India has cancelled the registration of 15 investment advisers for failing to pay mandatory renewal fees. This regulatory action follows a period of non-compliance where the entities ignored earlier notices. Investors should check their adviser’s status on the official SEBI website to ensure they are working with authorized professionals.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India has officially cancelled the registration certificates of 15 investment advisers, citing their failure to pay mandatory renewal fees. This decision comes after a period of regulatory follow-up where the entities did not fulfill the financial requirements necessary to keep their licenses active.

Under the SEBI Investment Advisers Regulations of 2013, registered advisers are required to pay a renewal fee every five years to maintain their status. The regulator had issued show-cause notices to these specific entities back in June, asking them to explain the delay and why their registrations should not be cancelled. However, the advisers failed to respond or clear their dues within the required timeframe, leading to the final order of cancellation.

Some of the affected entities include Capvision Investment Advisor, Wise Finserv, Money India Research, Exfinity Venture Partners LLP, and individual advisers like Hardik Mahendrakumar Shukla, Sharanjit Singh, and Tanya Gupta. While their registration certificates are now cancelled, the regulator made it clear that this does not free the entities from their past responsibilities. These individuals and firms remain legally liable for all their previous activities, including the handling of investor grievances, record maintenance, and any service obligations promised to clients during their time as active advisers.

For investors, this update serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying an adviser's credentials. An investment adviser is authorized to provide financial advice to clients, and their registration status is a critical indicator of their compliance with industry standards. When an adviser's license is cancelled, they are no longer legally permitted to provide advisory services in the capacity of a SEBI-registered entity.

Investors who currently or previously engaged with these advisers should verify their registration status through the official SEBI website. If a professional is no longer registered, they lack the legal standing to manage advisory relationships under the regulator's supervision. Moving forward, the most important step for clients of these specific entities is to ensure that their records, contracts, and any pending grievances are addressed, as the cancellation of the license does not automatically resolve ongoing disputes or contractual obligations.
