Nifty Rises 2.4% As FIIs Inject Record ₹14,975 Crore

The Nifty 50 and Sensex surged over 2% today, marking their sixth straight gain, driven by the largest single-day FII buying spree in over a year. While the rally gained steam following U.S. midterm election outcomes and falling oil prices, the India VIX rose, suggesting investors are keeping hedges in place.

The Indian stock market witnessed a powerful rally on November 5, 2026, with the Nifty 50 jumping 576 points, or 2.40%, to close at 24,536.60. The BSE Sensex mirrored this strength, climbing 2,008.61 points, or 2.60%, to settle at 79,310.01. This performance marked the sixth consecutive session of gains for the benchmark indices, signaling a sharp recovery in sentiment.

Record FII Inflow and Global Drivers

The primary catalyst for the day’s surge was a massive influx of capital from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). Market data showed a net purchase of approximately ₹14,975 crore, the largest single-day inflow in more than a year. This aggressive buying suggests a swift return of confidence among foreign investors, likely buoyed by significant global developments. The results of the U.S. midterm elections, where the Democratic Party secured control of both chambers of Congress, helped stabilize expectations regarding future U.S. policy. Additionally, the broader market sentiment was supported by a decline in Brent crude oil prices, which dipped below the $100 per barrel mark, easing concerns over energy-related inflationary pressures.

Market Technicals and Lingering Risks

Despite the clear bullish trend, the volatility index, India VIX, climbed by roughly 2.5% to 2.8% to hover around the 15.6 level. This rise in the volatility gauge indicates that investors are not abandoning caution entirely; rather, many are maintaining hedges against potential swings in the market.

While the current six-day winning streak highlights strong momentum, investors may look at the broader context of the 2026 calendar year. Even with recent gains, both the Nifty 50 and Sensex remain down by approximately 6% year-to-date. The sustainability of this rally will depend on whether corporate earnings growth can justify the current valuations. Moving forward, observers will watch whether the FII buying momentum continues and if the India VIX stabilizes, which would provide more clarity on the market's ability to hold these gains in the coming sessions.
